Experience Live Volcanic Action in Reykjavík
Step into Iceland’s volcanic world at the Lava Show, the only place on Earth where you can safely witness real molten lava flowing at temperatures reaching 1100°C (2000°F) in a controlled indoor environment.
Real Molten Lava, Up Close
Unlike simulations or digital presentations, the Lava Show features authentic volcanic rock heated to molten temperatures, creating genuine lava flows right before your eyes. Begin in the pre-show exhibition area, then take your seat in the specially designed theater where you will watch real lava being poured, flowing, and slowly cooling while expert geologists explain lava flow patterns, temperature effects, and the science of volcanic eruptions.
Iceland’s Volcanic Story
Through expert commentary, you will learn how Iceland’s position on the Mid-Atlantic Ridge created over 130 volcanic mountains and 30 active volcanic systems. The presentation covers recent eruptions, including the famous Eyjafjallajökull 2010 event and ongoing volcanic activity on the Reykjanes Peninsula, giving you the geological context to truly understand Iceland’s ever-changing landscape.
Conveniently Located in Reykjavík
The Lava Show is located in the Grandi harbor district and runs multiple daily shows year-round. The 45-minute live demonstration is a weather-independent activity that works perfectly on any day of your visit.
